1.3 Applications and Features

1.3.1 Good dispersion: Using SG-3000, which has good dispersibility, no agglomeration, and can shorten the grinding and dispersing time.

1.3.2 Low hardness: The Mohs hardness of precipitated barium sulfate is only grade 3, and it does not contain high hardness impurities such as silica, so adding SG-3000 has almost no wear to equipment.

1.3.3 Excellent in matt and semi-matt coating systems: SG-3000 has a large particle size, has matting and light scattering effects, and can be applied to various matt or semi-matt coatings and light-diffusing plastics.

1.3.4 High whiteness: In the visible spectrum, SG-3000 has a very high reflection coefficient, and the L value exceeds 99%, which is more pure white than natural barium sulfate, and is color neutral. In this way, SG-3000 can better maintain the stability and tone of the product.

1.3.5 High purity: SG-3000 has high purity, acid and alkali resistance, insoluble in water and any organic solvent, and has good weather resistance.

1.3.6 Fluidity: The particle size distribution of the product is concentrated and the oil absorption is low. The product added with SG-3000 has better fluidity even at a higher concentration.

2.1 Preparation Method Of Precipitated Barium Sulfate Sg-3000 For White Paint

2.1.1 Basic Formula Technology

First, disperse the acrylic resin, dispersant, defoamer, and xylene with a disperser at 800 rpm for 10 minutes, so that the slurry and the auxiliary are mixed uniformly. Then while stirring, add barium sulfate, and then add glass beads (slurry: glass beads = 1:1), grind and disperse at a high speed of 1800r/min for 20 minutes, and test after the inspection fineness reaches about 25μm. The formula is shown in Table 2.

2.1.2 Sample Making For Comparative Experiments

The varnish to be tested was prepared on a transparent glass sheet with a 100 μm coater. After being naturally dried for 30 minutes, it was placed in an oven at 80°C for 30 minutes to dry and solidify, and then it was taken out and cooled to room temperature before testing.

2.2.1 Contrast Of Appearance And Hue

Fig.4. Appearance and hue effect diagram of paint

As can be seen from Figure 4, precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 added with is quite different in appearance from white matt paint added with natural barium sulfate, which fully shows the characteristics of SG-3000 with high purity, high whiteness and no black spots and impurities. However, natural barium sulfate directly affects its appearance and hue due to its high impurity content.

2.2.2 Comparison Of Gloss
According to the above experimental methods, the effects of different barium sulfates on gloss are compared, and the experimental results are shown in Table 3 and Figure 5.

Fig.5. Effect comparison chart of gloss

From the data in Table 3 and Figure 5, it can be seen that the white matte paints of ordinary barium sulfate, natural barium sulfate, and precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 are respectively added, and there is a big difference in gloss. Ordinary barium sulfate has high gloss and is not suitable for matte series. Natural barium sulfate has a certain degree of extinction, but the extinction intensity is worse than that of SG-3000. The paint surface of SG-3000 is smooth, the gloss is uniform, and the softness is high, which is beyond the reach of natural barium sulfate.

2.2.3 Comparison Of Opacity
According to the above experimental methods, the effects of different barium sulfates on the opacity were compared, and the experimental results are shown in Figure 6.

Fig.6. Effect comparison chart of opacity

As can be seen from Figure 6, the white matt paint of ordinary barium sulfate, natural barium sulfate, and precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 was added respectively, due to the high impurity content of natural barium sulfate, which directly affected the opacity of the white matt paint. The opacity of SG-3000 is obviously better than that of ordinary barium sulfate and natural barium sulfate.

2.2.4 Comparison of the results of L, a, b value
The L, a, b values and whiteness values of different samples were analyzed and tested by a colorimeter. The experimental results are shown in Table 4.

Fig.8. Effect comparison chart of weather resistance

From the data in Table 5 and Figure 7, it can be seen that the white matt paint with ordinary barium sulfate, natural barium sulfate, and precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 added respectively, after the weather resistance testing, the gloss and hue have changed to varying degrees. Among them, ordinary barium sulfate has the largest drop in gloss, followed by natural barium sulfate. SG-3000 has certain advantages in weather resistance due to the special production process.

2.2.6 Comparison Of Anti-Settling Differences
The storage stability of three white matt paints was observed by experiment, and the storage time was 30 days. The experimental results are shown in Figure 9.

图片19-gg.jpg图片18-gg.jpg图片17-gg.jpg

Fig.9. Effect comparison chart of anti-settling

As can be seen from Figure 9, the addition of precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 has no obvious delamination phenomenon compared with the white matt paint added with ordinary barium sulfate, and both of them have certain anti-settling effect without anti-settling additives. However, under the same conditions, the white matt paint added with natural barium sulfate showed obvious stratification and hard precipitation. Therefore, the suspension of precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 is better than that of natural barium sulfate.

3 Experimental results

3.1 Precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 has a pure white appearance because of its high purity and few impurities. Compared with ordinary barium sulfate, it is much inferior, with dull color and low whiteness.

3.2 Adding precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 to the coating system can improve the leveling of the paint film and make the gloss more uniform and soft, so as to obtain the best matting effect.

3.3 Adding precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 to the coating system can play an obvious matting effect. When used in semi-matt and full-matt systems, it can reduce the addition of other matt powders and reduce the overall cost.

3.4 Adding precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000, in addition to its excellent matting properties, its good dispersibility and whiteness provide good opacity for white paints. Coupled with its better suspension performance, it can effectively improve the anti-settling and anti-sagging properties of the coating.

3.5 Precipitated barium sulfate SG-3000 is endowed with excellent weather resistance and acid and alkali resistance due to special surface treatment, which makes the paint film not easy to yellowing, pulverization and lose gloss.
